By combining beans from multiple Latin American origins, you get a profile that's bigger and more complete than any single country could produce alone.

Colombian beans bring balance and medium body. They're the backbone—reliable, consistent, pleasant. Colombian coffee is famous for a reason: it works. Balanced acidity, medium body, clean cup.

Guatemalan beans add complexity and bright acidity. Guatemalan coffee from regions like Huehuetenango and Antigua brings citrus, floral notes, and that gentle brightness that keeps coffee interesting.

Brazilian beans provide chocolate and low acidity. Brazilian coffee is naturally sweet, low-acid, and full of chocolate and nut notes. It rounds everything out.

Roasted to medium (410-420°F) to develop sweetness and body without overpowering origin character. The exact ratio shifts with harvest seasons, but the goal stays the same: showcase why Latin American coffee became what people expect coffee to taste like.

Why is Latin American coffee the "standard"? History and geography. Coffee came to the Americas in the 1700s and found ideal growing conditions: volcanic soil, high elevation, consistent rainfall. Countries like Colombia, Brazil, and Guatemala became major producers. Their coffees tend to be balanced, approachable, and consistent—qualities that made them popular globally. When people think "coffee," they're usually thinking of Latin American flavor profiles even if they don't know it.

What's the challenge with regional blends? Creating something distinctive when all the components are similar. Latin American coffees share certain characteristics: chocolate, nuts, caramel, medium body, balanced acidity. The challenge isn't contrast (like African + Indonesian blends). It's balance. Success means making each component enhance the others: Colombian provides backbone, Guatemalan adds brightness, Brazilian adds sweetness. Together they create something fuller and more complete than any single origin.

Medium roast—why is it the default? Medium roasting (410-420°F, just past first crack) develops sweetness and body through caramelization while preserving origin characteristics. Go lighter and you get more acidity and fruit but less body and sweetness. Go darker and you get more body and boldness but lose origin character. Medium is the balanced middle ground where you taste both the coffee's origin and the roaster's skill.
