No caffeine. Rooibos is naturally caffeine-free. Drink it at 11pm. Sleep fine.
Base: Rooibos (South African Red Bush Tea)
Spices: Cinnamon, Orange Peel, Licorice Root
Flavoring: Apple Cinnamon French Toast (Natural & Artificial)
Rooibos comes from one place: the Cederberg region of South Africa. The plant (Aspalathus linearis) grows nowhere else. It's harvested, fermented, and dried, creating a naturally sweet, caffeine-free beverage that's been consumed in South Africa for centuries.
This blend adds classic fall spices. Cinnamon for warmth. Orange peel for brightness. Licorice root for natural sweetness and depth. The apple cinnamon French toast flavoring creates the signature "fall breakfast" character.
It's designed to taste like comfort. The kind of tea you drink while watching rain or snow. Or while pretending it's fall even though it's summer.
Hot Tea
Amount: 2.5g per 12oz water
Water: 212°F (full boiling)
Time: 4-6 minutes
Pro tip: Rooibos can't get bitter. Steep longer for stronger flavor.
As a Latte
Amount: 3g per 6oz water
Water: 212°F
Time: 5 minutes, add 6oz steamed milk
Pro tip: The cinnamon and apple flavors work incredibly well with milk. Oat milk especially.
Iced (Because Why Not)
Amount: 5g per 12oz water (double strength)
Water: 212°F
Time: 6 minutes, pour over ice
Pro tip: Even though this tastes like fall, it's refreshing iced. Add a cinnamon stick.
What is rooibos? Not tea. It's a South African plant that grows exclusively in the Cederberg region. The needles are harvested, bruised to initiate fermentation, then dried in the sun. The result is a naturally sweet, caffeine-free beverage with a mild flavor that takes well to spices and flavoring. It's been consumed in South Africa for centuries and became popular worldwide in the past few decades.
Why licorice root? Licorice root (Glycyrrhiza glabra) is a natural sweetener that's 50 times sweeter than sugar. It adds sweetness and depth to herbal blends without adding calories or affecting blood sugar. It also has a subtle anise-like flavor that complements spices. Small amounts (like in this blend) just add sweetness. Large amounts taste like black licorice candy.
Can rooibos get bitter? No. Unlike actual tea (Camellia sinensis), rooibos doesn't contain tannins that cause bitterness when over-steeped. You can leave the tea bag or leaves in indefinitely. The flavor gets stronger but never bitter. This makes it very forgiving for people who forget they're brewing tea.
Best time to drink: Evening. The caffeine-free nature means it won't interfere with sleep, but the warming spices make it feel cozy and appropriate for winding down. Also good on cold mornings when you want something warming but don't want caffeine.
